EDMONTON - Millennials, aged 20-29 in the Edmonton area have had the highest increase in Covid-19 cases over the last two months according to a study by the New Democratic Party. With this new information, the NDP in Alberta have labeled the Corona virus to be a facet of systemic discrimination.
"There's only one reason that our supporters are being affected more than other groups, and that's because of bigotry in the Covid-19 virus" says NDP education critic Sarah Hoffman. MLA Hoffman was originally asked about recent NDP fear mongering, where at the start of the school year NDP members predicted mass outbreaks at schools which has not materialized.
Alberta's head medical physician, Dr. Deena Henshaw, in a press conference recently informed Albertans that the percentage of Covid-19 cases in school-aged children were driven by spread outside schools, with only 6% of cases in that age group coming from in-school transmission. The percentage of school-age active Covid-19 cases has also gone down since the start of the school year which was at 21% and is now down to 17%.
Meanwhile, "millennials" aged 20-29 have seen a spike in cases, going from 19% to 26% of active cases over the same two month period, with the vast majority of those coming from the Edmonton Urban Zone. By coincidence, this also is the strongest support demographic for the Alberta NDP.
When asked about these facts in the face of MLA Hoffman's unfounded accusations on the lack of safety in schools, the Education critic responded "It's obvious to anyone who isn't a sewer rat that the Covid-19 virus is targeting NDP supporters. It's another example of systemic bigotry in our society and we should all be ashamed of ourselves."
